Other Senior Centers to Accomodate the Displaced Bingo Players
Marlborough's senior citizens are hitting the road for their bingo games as they wait for their own downtown community center to reopen. The directors of Council on Aging in the Hudson and Southborough will be seeing new players at their own gaming facilities for a while as the thunderstorm that Friday night flooded the Marlborough's downtown Community Senior Center forced the indefinite closure of the facility.
Hudson Council on Aging Director Janice Long said that they have gotten three to four people calling over for the draw. According to Mayor Nancy Stevens, the upper Main Street center will not be opened at Monday at the earliest. Activities have been suspended for a while. She have announced other alternative summer cooling places where the seniors can go and relax for a while.
Mayor Stevens also said that they do not know yet how much the damage from the flooding will cost which will include the damaged floors of the center and the bottoms of walls. They are still waiting for the insurance adjuster to assess the damage. The city has already commissioned its workers and a crew from Servpro, a cleaning service which specializes in flood damaged to fix the mess in the community center.
Information about when the Senior Center will open will be available from the center's answering machine, the message board on cable Channel 8 and at the door of the senior center. The assistant Council on Aging director for Southborough, Carol Wheeler said that she have already seen some Marlborough Seniors in their building. She said that they are very welcome to come and join them in the center and in their bingo games. They are also quite concerned for them because of the high temperature in the area.
The Director for the Council on Aging in Northborough, Kelly Burke said that she has seen new faces in their center but she is not really sure where they are from because there is a lot of crossover from all the towns and they are open to anyone that wishes to join in their activities.
The Senior Center in Hudson will host a bingo game tomorrow at exactly 12:30 p.m. Seniors in Marlborough can also escape the high temperature at the Marlborough hospital from 8:00 a.m. in the morning up to 8:00 p.m.
